TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of New Mexico men¹s golf team slumped to a 292 (+4) final round, as the Lobos finished in 10th place at the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., Saturday afternoon. UNM, which had been tied for third after Friday¹s first two rounds, had the third-highest round of the day Saturday to fall off the pace. The Lobos finished with a 54-hole score of 853 (-11), 21 shots behind team champion Texas. The Longhorns shot a tournament record 832 (-32) to win by six strokes over host Arizona State (838, -26).

UNM was led by senior Scott Hailes, who recorded his third straight top-10 finish. Hailes shot 74 (+2) on Saturday to finish at 208 (-8), tied for seventh. TCU¹s Bret Guetz won the individual trophy with a tournament record 200 (-16). Other top Lobos included Michael Letzig, who shot 215 (-1), T38th, and Wil Collins, who shot 216 (E), T42nd.

The Lobos begin postseason play in two weeks when they start the Mountain West Conference championships in Bend, Ore., Apr. 29 - May 1.
