UNM Football Team's New Color: Green The Albuquerque Tribune Feature Story
Dec. 22, 2003
By Brad Moore LAS VEGAS - The University of New Mexico football team produced one of its better seasons in 2003, and it's reflected in what a UNM official said is the most money the program has generated in its history. "There's no question about that," said Bill Richards, UNM's associate athletics director in charge of finance. "The football program has generated more money than it ever has before." The Lobos are 8-4 overall and will play in their second straight bowl game Christmas Eve against Oregon State. UNM will receive a payout of $800,000 for participating in the Las Vegas Bowl. Greg Remington, UNM's associate athletics director for media relations, said the school will make a modest profit from the game - about a few thousand dollars after expenses. The difference in the football program's ability to produce more revenue this year is attributed to record-setting attendance. The Lobos also benefited from a rare seven home-game schedule.
