Offensive Line Gives Lobos Room to Run Moore, Mountain West's top rusher, credits blockers for his impressive season.
Dec. 22, 2003
By Mark Anderson LAS VEGAS - When a team has a strong ground game, the running back generally attracts the spotlight and his linemen labor in the shadows. That's the way it is in football, at any level. New Mexico tailback DonTrell Moore has had a spectacular season and attracted the accompanying publicity, but his success would not be possible without the best offensive line in the Mountain West Conference. "They get all the credit from me," Moore said. "It takes a great offensive line to have a good running team. I do whatever I can to help out the hard work that they're putting in. When they block like they do, any running back can get in there and run behind those guys." The Lobos play Oregon State at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Las Vegas Bowl at Sam Boyd Stadium. Moore led the Mountain West with 1,438 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaging 5.4 yards a carry. He had seven 100-yard games in the final eight weeks, when New Mexico won seven of eight games.
