Rams Looking For Bowl Win CSU takes on North Texas tonght in the New Orleans Bowl.
Dec. 18, 2001
NEW ORLEANS - Colorado State University's football team hopes to continue to make history Tuesday night when the Rams face the University of North Texas in the first-ever New Orleans Bowl. Kickoff in the Louisiana Superdome is 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT and will be carried live on radio by the Colorado State Sports Network and on television by ESPN2. Since Sonny Lubick's arrival as head coach in 1993, the Rams have made history a part of their annual football campaign. Tuesday night's game marks the team's sixth bowl game in the past nine seasons, the most by any Mountain West Conflerence member. It is also a record-setting third straight bowl trip. With a win, the Rams can add a second win in a row on the heels of last year's 22-17 win over the University of Louisville in the Liberty Bowl. Colorado State has never won back-to-back bowl games. To do so, Colorado State must contain NT's rushing game, and be able to run the ball themselves, according to veteran coach Sonny Lubick. "I know that our players are excited to be here, and have been treated very, very well. Now, it's time to go out and play the game. I feel we will play very hard. The key is stopping their running game, because they really pound it at you," said Lubick. "And we have to be able to move the ball ourselves."
Following the game, the Rams' players and coaches will be feted at the team's hotel in a postgame celebration, then return home Wednesday morning for the holiday break.
