Meyer A Man With A Plan . . . And Style The Deseret News Feature Story

By Brad Rock SALT LAKE CITY - The boyish-looking gentleman had it all down pat upon being introduced as the new football coach at the University of Utah. He was smooth and composed, a man with a plan. He called Salt Lake a great place to coach, a good venue for recruiting. He admitted an attraction to the safety and beauty of the area. One of the big pluses, he noted, was being in a family-oriented place to raise his three young kids. He didn't make blanket promises but said he could find no reason why Utah couldn't compete for the league championship. He called it a coveted position, one of the best in the conference. He spoke of the school's fine academics. He mentioned recruiting heavily in California. As for the "Mormon missionary" issue, he said that wouldn't be a problem. He promised offense, and lots of it, calling his teams "aggressive and fast, and we'll spread the field."
