COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Jeff Ballard (TCU), Joe Martin (San Diego State) and Freddy Dunkle (San Diego State) are Mountain West Conference Players of the Week for games through Dec. 2. Ballard earns the Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Martin garners the Defensive Player award and Dunkle receives Special Teams recognition. Ballard collects his second weekly honor of the season and third of his career, while Martin is earns his second defensive award of the season and of his career. Dunkle is a first time weekly award winner.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK JEFF BALLARD, TCU Senior, Quarterback, Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood
Senior quarterback Jeff Ballard completed 21-of-26 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown in TCU's 38-14 victory over Air Force. Ballard started the game completing his first 12 pass attempts for 100 yard. He also added a one-yard first-quarter scoring run in the contest. His 80.8 completion percentage was the fourth-best single-game mark in TCU history.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK JOE MARTIN, San Diego State Senior, Linebacker, Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete
Senior linebacker Joe Martin recorded a team-high 14 tackles (four solo), including 1.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback sack in San Diego State's 17-6 win over Colorado State. It marked the fourth time this season he has recorded double-digit tackles. Five of Martin's tackles held Colorado State to gains of one yard or less.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK FREDDY DUNKLE, San Diego State Junior, Linebacker, Chula Vista, Calif./Castle Park
Junior linebacker Freddy Dunkle blocked a punt in the third quarter, the first blocked punt for San Diego State this season, resulting in the Aztecs taking over on the Colorado State 23-yard line. San Diego State kicked a field goal five plays later to go up 10-3. On the ensuing kickoff, Dunkle made the tackle pinning the Rams inside the 20-yard line.
