Rams Returning To Football Practice Program Television crew for New Orleans Bowl announced.
Dec. 4, 2001
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University's football team - making a third bowl trip for the first time in school history - returns to the practice field Thursday afternoon for the first of three weekend workouts. Ninth-year coach Sonny Lubick, who has guided the Rams to six bowl games, will put the team through workouts Thursday and Friday at 3:30, then Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The team then breaks for final examinations, which take place on campus Dec. 10-14, before the team leaves for the New Orleans Bowl Friday, Dec. 14. Colorado State last weekend held its first three bowl workouts in preparation for the team's Dec. 18 game with North Texas in the first-ever New Orleans Bowl. "It was good to get back out there and get some things going," said Lubick following the drills. "It gave our players a little break, some rest, and allowed them a chance to get healthy. We're very excited to have the opportunity to be playing in the bowl game. I think our players are very excited." Lubick is hopeful that offensive lineman Broderick Lancaster, out since the sixth game of the year due to a knee sprain, can return in time to play for the Rams. The Rams suffered one injury Sunday during the practice session when backup offensive lineman Kelly Wall suffered fractures of the tibia and fibula bones in his right leg. The injury will require surgical repair, and Wall will not play in the bowl game but is expected back at full strength for the 2002 season. Defensive lineman Patrick Goodpaster will also not play. He cut his right arm when he fell through a window after slipping on ice. Once the team arrives in New Orleans, they'll have a photo session at the Superdome on Friday, followed by workouts Saturday and Sunday at Tulane University, the team's on-site practice headquarters. Colorado State will have a walk-through at the Superdome - which will be closed to the media on Monday, Dec. 17. Kickoff time for the Dec. 18 game is 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT. It will be televised by ESPN2. Mark Jones will call the play-by-play, Chris Spielman is the analyst, and Holly Rowe is the sideline reporter. Colorado State's practice session schedule includes:
Thursday, Dec. 6: 3:30-5:30 p.m., Ram Practice Fields
