Urban Meyer, who has led Utah to an 11-0 season and the brink of an historic BCS bowl invitation, has been named the Home Depot National Coach of the Year. Meyer will be presented with the award at the Home Depot College Football Awards, Thursday, Dec. 9 in Orlando, Fla. The show, which will also feature Ute quarterback Alex Smith, will be televised live from 5-7 p.m. MST on ESPN.

The 11th-annual Home Depot Coach of the Year award was selected by ESPN and ABC college football analysts. Past winners include Bobby Bowden (Florida State), Gary Barnett (Northwestern), Rich Brooks (Oregon), Mike Price (Washington State), Phil Fulmer (Tennessee), Tom Osborne (Nebraska), Bob Stoops (Oklahoma), Ralph Friedgen (Maryland), Tyrone Willingham (Notre Dame) and Pete Carroll (USC).

Also announced today were the six finalists for the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award. Meyer joins UTEP's Mike Price, USC's Carroll, Auburn's Tommy Tuberville, Cal's Jeff Tedford and Iowa's Kirk Ferentz on the ballot, which will be voted on by the FWAA members. The FWAA has honored a national coach of the year since 1957. This year's winner will be decided in late December.
