LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming football team closed out the 2003 season this past Saturday with a disappointing 35-24 loss to UNLV in War Memorial Stadium.

The loss was the third straight down the stretch for the Cowboys, who finished Joe Glenn's first season with an overall record of 4-8 and a Mountain West Conference mark of 2-5.

On the positive side, the Cowboys won four games this season, nearly equaling their total (5) of the three previous seasons. They also won two MWC games, which is one more than they had won (1) the three previous years. The two conference wins were huge in that they came over Wyoming's two biggest rivals - Colorado State (35-28) and BYU (10-7).

It wasn't all roses, however. Some of season's glitter was taken off in the last three games when the Cowboys mysteriously went in the tank in the second half in losses to Utah, New Mexico and UNLV. In those three games, the Cowboys failed to score in the second half, while surrendering 71 points - 30 to Utah, 16 to New Mexico and 25 to UNLV.

Even though Wyoming won only nine games over the past four seasons, five senior Cowboys etched their names into the record book.

It seems very unlikely that Wyoming will ever experience a more prolific passing trio than the one composed of quarterback Casey Bramlet and wide receivers Ryan McGuffey and Malcom Floyd.
