Lobos Predict Bowls Aplenty The Albuquerque Tribune Feature Story

By Brad Moore ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - For the time being, reaching a bowl game is a reward and a confirmation that the 2002 Lobos will go down as a success story. But reaching a bowl game, players say, is also a telling sign of new times to come for Lobos football. For the Lobos - who with a 49-20 win over Wyoming on Saturday earned a bowl berth for just the second time in the past 41 years - this is only the beginning. "This is something we're going to build on," UNM junior defensive end D.J. Renteria said. "We finished in second place in (the Mountain West Conference) this year, but we're already aiming for that top spot next year. "And around here, bowl games are rare. We're going to turn that around to where bowl games are expected every year."
