Memphis - Two conference champions, Colorado State and TCU, will battle in the December 31st AXA Liberty Bowl in Memphis at 2:30pm (CST) on ESPN. TCU clinched its first Conference USA championship and the berth in the AXA Liberty Bowl with a season ending victory to improve its record to 9-2. TCU will play nationally ranked Colorado State, the champions of the Mountain West Conference. The Rams claimed their third MWC title and finished with a 10-3 record. The AXA Liberty Bowl will feature two of the country's top running backs, CSU's Cecil "The Diesel" Sapp and TCU freshmen sensation Lonta Hobbs. Sapp set the Rams single season rushing record with 1,495 yards this season. He was the MVP of the 2000 AXA Liberty Bowl. TCU's Hobbs is already drawing comparisons to former TCU star LaDainian Tomlinson. Hobbs ran for 287 yards and three touchdowns in the season finale to power the Horned Frogs to their first Conference USA Championship. Colorado State will be making its third appearance in the AXA Liberty Bowl. The Rams played in the 1999 and 2000 AXA Liberty Bowl games. This will be TCU's first appearance in the AXA Liberty Bowl. The 44th annual AXA Liberty Bowl will feature the world's largest American Flag and its annual patriotic theme will highlight the Pledge of Allegiance. Grammy award winning superstar Clint Black will headline the halftime spectacular.
