The New Mexico Bowl, an ESPN Regional Television owned and operated event, has offered its first-ever invitation to the University of New Mexico, who will represent the Mountain West Conference and play San Jose State from the Western Athletic Conference in the inaugural contest on December 23rd.

"We are happy to extend this historic invitation to the University of New Mexico," said Jeff Siembieda, Executive Director of the New Mexico Bowl. "I know the people of New Mexico are going to be excited to kickoff this new football tradition in the Land of Enchantment with the Lobos as one of the participants in the inaugural Bowl Game. Congratulations to Rocky Long, Paul Krebs, and everyone involved with this terrific program. We look forward to a great football game and festive Bowl Week."

With a 41-14 win over San Diego State on November 25th, the Lobos extended their record to 6-6 overall and 4-4 within the MWC. This will mark the fourth time in five years New Mexico has reached the post-season. In their last bowl appearance, the Lobos fell to Navy 34-19 in the 2004 Emerald Bowl in San Francisco.

New Mexico becomes the second MWC team to accept a Bowl Invitation this season, joining conference champion BYU, who will play in the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl on December 21st.

Tickets for the inaugural New Mexico Bowl are now on sale. The game will be played on Saturday, December 23rd and be televised by ESPN at 2:30 p.m. MT, live from the University of New Mexico's University Stadium in Albuquerque. Football fans who want to be a part of this historic event can purchase tickets at the University of New Mexico box office or online at www.newmexicobowl.com.

The New Mexico Bowl is a newly created NCAA certified college football bowl game owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT). ERT markets and owns four other bowl games -- the Sheraton Hawai`i Bowl, Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl, the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl and the PapaJohns.com Bowl.
