Lobos Plan to Dazzle in Vegas this Year The Albuquerque Tribune Feature Story
Nov. 24, 2003
By Brad Moore ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A victory in the Las Vegas Bowl is the exclamation point the Lobos will try to put on one of the best seasons in New Mexico football history. After plowing through the snow, minus-5 degree wind chill temperatures and the Wyoming Cowboys in Laramie for a 26-3 victory Saturday, the Lobos received an invitation Sunday to the Las Vegas Bowl for the second year in a row. "I think we're getting the best team in the Mountain West Conference," said Las Vegas Bowl executive director Tina Kunzer-Murphy. UNM's opponent will be from the Pacific-10 Conference but won't be named for a couple of more weeks. The Las Vegas Bowl, which will be played Christmas Eve and aired on ESPN, gets the fifth-choice of Pac-10 teams. Kunzer-Murphy said in a teleconference that Oregon State (7-4, 4-3), which has a game left at No. 2 Southern California on Dec. 6, is a probable choice for the Las Vegas Bowl. California (7-6, 5-3) and Washington (6-6, 4-4) are also possibilities.
