CSU to Bowl During Holidays San Francisco treat for Rams.
Nov. 24, 2003
By Natalie Meisler FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State football coach Sonny Lubick spent his first Sunday off since July in a Las Vegas hotel watching football and fretting over the logistics of juggling bowl practice with recruiting visits. If the previous night's Colorado State-UNLV game ended 53 seconds sooner, Lubick might have real grounds for complaint. He would have to worry only about recruiting to a team without a bowl bid. Barely 12 hours after the Rams pulled out a 24-23 stunner to finish 7-5 and alone in third place in the Mountain West, arrangements were complete for the Rams to play Dec. 31 in the San Francisco Bowl against a Big East team, probably 7-5 Boston College. "I'm happy the players will have a chance to go to a bowl," Lubick said. "I'm very excited to play in San Francisco." It's also the first time since the 1997 Holiday Bowl the Rams will play a bowl game in their recruiting territory.
