MWC Players of the Week Announced Green, Underwood, and Borreson garner weekly honors.
Nov. 24, 2003 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Jimmy Green (Colorado State), Marviel Underwood (San Diego State) and Brian Borreson (Utah) were named Mountain West Conference Players of the Week following Week Thirteen action. Green claims Offensive Player of the Week, Underwood takes Defensive honors, while Borreson receives special teams recognition. Borreson wins the award for the first time this season and second of his career (2002). Green and Underwood are honored for the first time ever.
MWC Offensive Player of the Week In his first significant game-action of the season, Jimmy Green became the third Colorado State running back to eclipse 100-yards in 2003, with a 113-yard, one-touchdown effort in the Rams come-from-behind victory at UNLV. Green entered the contest with 173 yards on 32 carries for the season. Green accounted for all the yardage in a 10-play, 54-yard, third-quarter scoring drive. He also kept CSU's game-winning touchdown drive alive with a 3-yard pickup on fourth and 1, at the UNLV 18-yardline.
MWC Defensive Player of the Week Behind a defensive charge led by Marviel Underwood, San Diego State held Air Force without a touchdown for the first time in 35 games. Underwood tallied a game-high 12 tackles, including 10 solo stops for the Aztecs. He also sealed the SDSU victory with a 74-yard, fourth-quarter interception return for a touchdown.
MWC Special Teams Player of the Week
The right toe of Brian Borreson provided all the points in Utah's 3-0 win over BYU. In cold, blustery conditions and periodic snow, Borreson's 41-yard, second-quarter attempt proved to be the game winner as Utah became the first team to shut out BYU in 28 years.
