Once-Reluctant Boyd Enables New Mexico's Fly Series To Take Off The Albuquerque Tribune Feature Story
Nov. 22, 2002
By Brad Moore ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico Lobos have Dirk Koetter, the former Boise State and current Arizona State head coach, to thank for feeding them the bread-and-butter series of their offense. UNM offensive coordinator Dan Dodd says he learned the Lobos' fly series - plays centered around the threat of handing the ball off to a wide receiver running full-speed in motion - from attending spring practices at Boise State in 2001 and Arizona State this year. The Lobos implemented the fly series last season, but it wasn't effective. This season, however, "it's been so valuable, and it's been such a huge part of our offense," said Dodd, whose Lobos will try to fly by Colorado State on Saturday in Fort Collins.
