Not-So-Funny Thing Happened to Rams on Way to 12-0 The San Diego Union-Tribune Feature Story
Nov. 13, 2003
By Kevin Acee SAN DIEGO - Bradlee Van Pelt is immersed in contrary worlds, living up to the hype and failing miserably. The reigning Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year is all but assured of leaving school having won that award a second straight year. The Colorado State quarterback is among the most prolific offensive players in NCAA history and owns most of the school records he could rightfully expect to. Yet, as his college career nears its completion, there is more frustration than satisfaction. This is what he said by phone this week: "Being in my senior year, and I'm having my best year and I have command out there, it's really hard to leave the field and look at the scoreboard and see another loss and think, 'How could it be that we have all this talent and we're losing?' " The Rams are 5-5 and sliding through their second two-game losing streak of the season. The team that won or shared three of the first four MWC titles and was favored to win its second straight this year is 2-3 in conference. The Rams are left to talk about honor, about finding whatever it is that has been missing and somehow finishing with a winning record.
