Curtis Brown (BYU), Robert Merrill (TCU), Robert Herbert (Colorado State), Quincy Butler (TCU) and Jason Smith (Colorado State) are Mountain West Conference Players of the Week. Brown and Merrill share Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Herbert and Butler share the Defensive award. Smith is the Special Teams honoree. Brown earns his second career weekly award, while Merrill, Herbert, Brown and Smith are first time honorees.
CO-OFFENSE: CURTIS BROWN, BYU, SENIOR, RUNNING BACK
Brown ran for a career-high 219 yards on 25 carries (8.8 yards per carry) and career-best four touchdowns in BYU's 62-41 victory over Air Force. Three of his four touchdowns came in the fourth quarter.
CO-OFFENSE: ROBERT MERRILL, TCU, SENIOR, TAILBACK
Merrill rushed for a season-high 170 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries (5.9 yards per carry) to key the TCU's 23-20 win at San Diego State. His 1-yard scoring run gave TCU its first points of the game just 2:58 into the contest. Merrill's 21-yard touchdown carry in the third quarter tied the game at 13-13. In the final drive of the game, he had a fourth-down rush for a first down that enabled TCU to run out the clock in the final minute to preserve the victory.
CO-DEFENSE: ROBERT HERBERT, COLORADO STATE, JUNIOR, CORNERBACK
Herbert had three unassisted tackles, broke up two passes and recovered a fumble on a muffed punt in Colorado State's 35-25 victory at New Mexico. He also returned an interception 30 yards that set up the Rams go-ahead touchdown (32-25) in the third quarter.
CO-DEFENSE: QUINCY BUTLER, TCU, SENIOR, CORNERBACK
Butler recorded four solo tackles, including one tackle for a loss of three yards, and broke up two passes in TCU's 23-20 victory at San Diego State. He also intercepted a fourth-down SDSU pass and returned it 10 yards to set up TCU's game-tying touchdown (PAT blocked) in the third quarter. It was Butler's team-best fifth interception of the season and his fourth pick in the last five games.
SPECIAL TEAMS: JASON SMITH, COLORADO STATE, FRESHMAN, PLACE KICKER
Smith became only the second kicker in Colorado State history to kick as many as four field goals in his collegiate debut. Smith hit field goals from 30, 41, 28, and 25 yards in the Rams 35-25 victory at New Mexico.
