Oct. 24, 2005

PROVO, Utah - BYU head football coach Bronco Mendenhall today announced junior receiver Joe Griffin has requested his release from Brigham Young University. Before transferring, Griffin will finish the semester at BYU but will no longer participate with the team.

After redshirting the 2004 season, Griffin has been credited with four receptions for 34 yards in 2005 and has seen action on special teams. Before coming to BYU in 2004, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of East Palo Alto, Calif., earned all-conference honors as a sophomore at Grossmont JC and helped lead the Griffins to a Foothill Valley Conference championship.

Griffin is expected to transfer to an NCAA Division-IAA program.
