COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Three Mountain West Conference student-athletes are among those honored by CBSSports.com as 2008 Midseason All-Americans. Utah senior kicker/punter Louie Sakoda and sophomore defensive end Paul Kruger were joined on the list by BYU senior offensive lineman Dallas Reynolds.
Reynolds, who hails from Provo, Utah, has started in every game of his career at BYU and is currently tied for second with the most consecutive starts by an active Football Bowl Subdivision athlete. Reynolds, who has started at every position on the offensive line, is part of an offensive unit that leads the Mountain West Conference and ranks eighth in the nation in passing offense, averaging 320.5 yards per game. The Cougars also lead the MWC and are ranked 16th nationally in total offense, having gained 452.7 yards per game.
Sakoda, a product of San Jose, Calif., currently leads the nation in kick-scoring points with 73 and is tied for first in the nation in made field goals (15-of-17). He is also tied for first in the country with six made field goals from beyond 40 yards and two field goals beyond 50 yards. Sakoda is one of just six players at any position to score 70 points this season and ranks 10th in the nation (first in the MWC) in points per game (10.43). He also ranks among the national punt leaders, averaging 43.4 yards per punt.
Kruger, one of five sophomores named to the CBSSports.com midseason team, is tied for first in the nation in tackles for loss (12.5). The Orem, Utah native also has 5.5 sacks, 34 total tackles, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles for the nation's seventh-ranked defense, as Utah is allowing 259.14 yards per game.
The Midseason All-America team was voted on by a panel of experts from CBSSports.com. Utah is only one of five schools, and the only non-automatic BCS qualifier, to be represented on the list by two players.
