COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah Head Football Coach Kyle Whittingham has been issued a public reprimand for his remarks regarding the officiating in the Utah at North Carolina contest played Saturday, October 1. Those comments were in violation of the MWC Sportsmanship Policy, which precludes public criticism of game officials.

"This action is reflective of the more restrictive application of the MWC Sportsmanship Policy recently directed by the MWC membership," said Commissioner Craig Thompson. "The intent is for the active and consistent implementation of the sanctions to change behavior."

The MWC expressed appreciation for the support of the MWC Sportsmanship Policy by the University of Utah and Utah Athletic Director Chris Hill. The Mountain West Conference will have no further comment regarding this case. The provisions of the MWC Sportsmanship Policy can be found in Rule 4 of the MWC Handbook - which can be accessed via the www.TheMWC.com website.
