Silicon Valley Football Classic Bowl Announcement Audio

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Chuck Shelton, Executive Director for the Silicon Valley Football Classic, announced that they have reached a one-year agreement with the Mountain West Conference (MWC) to furnish an opponent for the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in the bowl game to be played December 31, 2000 at 3:30 p.m. PST.

The game will be at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, Calif., and will be carried live on Fox Sports Net Television and KNBR 680 Radio. The agreement assures a matchup between the West Champion of the WAC and a team in the MWC that will finish in the top three.

"This agreement assures an outstanding competitive experience in our inaugural game," said Shelton. "The local interest will be high. Our ability to name league opponents at this date allows us the time to do the things needed assure our fans of an outstanding total event."

"This is an exciting opportunity for the Mountain West Conference, particularly allowing us to stay in the West," said Craig Thompson, commissioner for the Mountain West Conference. "It parallels our league mandates of a quality opponent in a geographical part of the country that makes sense."

"A WAC - MWC matchup should provide for a very successful inaugural game for the Silicon Valley Football Classic, and lay a foundation for the bowl to prosper in future years," said Karl Benson, commissioner for the Western Athletic Conference.
