COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior quarterback Max Hall has been named to the 2008 Watch List for the 72nd Maxwell Award, presented annually to the outstanding collegiate football player in America. The watch list is comprised of 75 players who were selected based on their performance during the 2007 season.

Hall, who is one of 26 quarterbacks to be named to the list, led the MWC with 296 passing yards per game in his sophomore campaign. The Mesa, Ariz. native finished 2007 as the nation's top-ranked sophomore quarterback, after compiling a league-best five 300-yard games. Hall, who earned first-team all-conference recognition, also became the MWC's all-time leading sophomore quarterback with 3,848 yards passing.

Two former Maxwell Award recipients played for MWC member institutions. TCU quarterback Davey O'Brien earned the second-ever Maxwell Award as a senior in 1938, while BYU quarterback Ty Detmer was honored in 1990.

Named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, semifinalists for the 2008 Maxwell Award will be announced in early November. Three finalists for the award will be named on Nov. 25 and the winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala, hosted by Harrah's Entertainment Atlantic City, on March 6, 2009.

The 2008 watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's Selection Committee and the Maxwell Club reserves the right to make additions and subtractions to these lists as the 2008 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA sports information directors, head coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for these awards.
