SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah offensive lineman Robert Conley and safety Steve Tate were named to the Outland Trophy and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch lists, respectively, the Football Writers Association of America has announced.

Conley is one of 41 players selected to the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which is presented to the nation's best interior lineman. The junior offensive guard made the honorable mention all-Mountain West Conference team as a sophomore in 2006, starting all 13 games and leading Utah's linemen in plays with 809.

Tate is one of 49 players named to the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is awarded to the nation's top defensive player. Tate led the Utes in tackles last season with 102, and finished fourth in the league in tackles per game (8.5). He was a 2006 honorable mention all-MWC selection.

Utah opens its 2006 football season on Aug. 30 in Corvallis, Ore. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Northwest, starting at 8 p.m. Mountain Time. Utah's home opener is against Air Force on Sept. 8.
