A name synonymous with success at Colorado State has re-joined the Rams' football coaching staff.

Head coach Sonny Lubick said today that Dave Lay will be the team's co-offensive coordinator. In that role, he will work with the team's tight ends and oversee Colorado State's running attack.

"We are excited to have Dave back on our staff," said Lubick. "You don't often have the opportunity to have some who is the quality person and quality coach as Dave return to your staff."

Lay will be in his third tour as part of CSU's staff. He was an original member of Lubick's staff when the 15th-year coach took over at Colorado State in 1993, and helped mold an offensive attack that led to back-to-back conference titles and Holiday Bowl appearances in 1994 and '95.

Lay was also formerly on the staff from 1982-87, serving the last three seasons of his tenure as the Ram's offensive coordinator.

He was also an assistant coach at San Diego State besides his collegiate career at Colorado State.

Lay also developed a reputation as a successful high school coach in the San Diego area including stops at Orange Glen and Sweetwater High Schools, respectively.

Lay replaces former assistant coach Karl Ballard, who left the staff last month to pursue a career outside athletics.

With Ballard's departure, Jesse Williams will shift back to coaching the team's defensive line, a position he formerly held until moving to coach the offensive line last spring.
