The Mountain West Conference announced its 2011 football television schedule today and it features a minimum of 51 telecasts available on a national basis. Forty-seven of the 49 MWC-controlled games are set for Saturdays (96 percent) and every Conference match-up will be televised.
CBS Sports Network will air 10 games and VERSUS is scheduled for eight telecasts. The MountainWest Sports Network - The Mtn. will televise 30 games, again featuring a unique telecast schedule that includes triple-headers on select weekends to maximize institutional exposure and provide fans all the MWC football action. The entire slate of games on VERSUS, CBS Sports Network and The Mtn. will be produced in high-definition (HD).
The Mountain West Conference season kicks off on Thursday, September 1, with UNLV traveling to Madison to take on 2010 Big Ten Champion Wisconsin. The game will be the first non-Saturday Wisconsin home game in 11 years.
On Saturday, September 3, the MountainWest Sports Network will broadcast a triple-header to open the season. The first game of the day features South Dakota at Air Force at Noon MT, followed by the first Conference matchup of the year when New Mexico hosts Colorado State at 4 p.m. MT. The Mtn. concludes its triple-header with Cal Poly at San Diego State at 7 p.m. PT.
The non-conference schedule features 21 games against teams that earned bowl berths in 2010, including Arkansas, Army (2 games), BYU, Fresno State (2 games), Georgia, Hawai'i, Michigan, Navy, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Toledo, Tulsa, Nevada (3 games), Wisconsin and UTEP. Five non-conference opponents finished ranked in last year's final Top 25 polls (USA Today/AP) - #8/7 Wisconsin, #12/12 Arkansas, #13/11 Nevada, #19/20 Nebraska and RV/24 Tulsa.
The MWC will play three games against the Big Ten and two contests each against the Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC. There are five games scheduled against Football Bowl Subdivision independents Army, BYU, Navy and Notre Dame, and nine home dates with Football Championship Subdivision programs.
VERSUS and CBS Sports Network are widely available on cable systems across the country and via satellite on DIRECTV (VERSUS-Channel 603/CBS Sports Network-Channel 613). Dish Network carries VERSUS on Channel 151 and CBS Sports Network on Channel 152), but has not yet added The Mtn. to its lineup. The Mtn. is carried nationally by DIRECTV (Channel 616) and on numerous cable operators throughout the country.
Mountain West Conference membership in the fall of 2011 will include the United States Air Force Academy, Boise State University, Colorado State University, University of New Mexico, San Diego State University, TCU, UNLV and University of Wyoming.
