AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) - Freshman Shaun Carney threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another, and Air Force found the end zone on its first three possessions in a 42-20 victory over Eastern Washington on Saturday.

The Falcons (1-1) led 21-0 by the end of the first quarter after scoring runs by Carney, Darnell Stephens and Edward Moss.

Carney completed 10 of 15 passes for 139 yards and had 62 yards rushing. His 3-yard touchdown run capped a six-play, 70-yard drive and gave the Falcons a 7-0 lead.

Dan Shaffer had a 34-yard touchdown run for the Falcons and finished with 131 yards on the ground. Stephens finished with 62 total yards and two touchdowns.

Erik Meyer was 21-of-34 for 293 yards for Eagles, with three touchdowns and one interception. Eric Kimble caught nine passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

Division I-AA Eastern Washington (0-2) rallied to make it 21-13 when Meyer hit Craig McIntye with a 16-yard touchdown pass after a 76-yard drive, and then connected with Kimble on a 10-yard slant late in the first half.

Air Force's Nelson Mitchell blocked Sheldon Weddle's point-after attempt.

In the final minute of the first half, Carney hit Stephens for a 21-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-13.

After Eastern Washington again cut the lead to eight points at 28-20, Carney connected with Justin Handley for a touchdown late in the third quarter. Shaffer then upped the lead to 42-20 when he broke through the middle of the Eastern Washington line for a 34-yard score.

On the last play of the first half, Eastern Washington botched a fake field goal attempt.
