LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Corey Bramlet threw for two touchdowns and 239 yards in his first career start and Wyoming built a 41-0 halftime lead en route to a 53-7 thrashing of Division I-AA Appalachian State Saturday.

In a game delayed for 33 minutes in the first quarter because of lightning, Wyoming (1-0) gained 537 yards on offense, including 318 in the first half.

Appalachian State, sustaining its worst season-opening loss, managed just 87 yards total offense in the first half. The Mountaineers (0-1) fared better in the second half, when the Cowboys pulled most of their starters, and finished with 230 yards.

Bramlet, a junior, connected with Dustin Pleasant on touchdown passes of 34 and 55 yards, both in the first half.

Bramlet completed 16 of 29 passes with no interceptions before leaving the game with about 5 minutes left in the third quarter and Wyoming ahead 44-7.

Pleasant, who was granted a medical hardship last year because of injury, had a career day, catching seven passes for 140 yards.

DaVon Fowlkes caught a career-high 10 passes for 153 yards, including a 61-year TD strike from Richie Williams in the third quarter, for Appalachian State, which was ranked 20th in the preseason Division I-AA poll.

The Mountaineers' previous worst opening loss was 50-17 at Marshall in 2002. Its worst loss ever was 50-0, also against Marshall, in 1990.
