New Mexico Drops Close One to Washington State 21-17 Dontrell Moore Runs for 167 yards

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -
The University of New Mexico football team dropped a hard fought 21-17 decision to Washington State in front of 34,860 at University Stadium. Washington State scored first after a Kole McKamey interception for a 7-0 lead. The Lobos answered right back with an Adrian Byrd one yard touchdown run after a McKamey to Hank Baskett 64 yard pass play. New Mexico would make it 14-7 on a Dontrell Moore 61 yard run. The Lobos would make it 17-7 on a Wes Zunker 21 yard field goal. New Mexico would then turn the ball over three times and have a punt block, which led to 14 Cougar points and a 21-17 final.
New Mexico outgained the Cougars 415 yards to 271 yards. Moore rushed for 167 yards on 24 carries and Baskett caught a career-high nine balls for a career-high 165 yards. McKamey was 16-of-30 passing for 229 yard, but threw three interceptions.
The Lobos return to the field on Saturday, September 11, againt Texas Tech at 6:00 p.m. at University Stadium.
