MWC Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week San Diego State's Billy White and UNLV's Wink Adams share weekly honor.
Dec. 31, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State freshman forward Billy White and UNLV junior guard Wink Adams have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week. This is the second career weekly honor for Adams and the first for White. White, a Las Vegas, Nev., native, led the Aztecs to a 79-78 overtime victory over previously unbeaten Sam Houston State last week. For the game, White had 12 points and six rebounds (game-high four offensive boards), connecting on 6-of-10 field goals in 29 minutes of action. He scored 10 of his 12 points and grabbed all six of his boards after intermission, including forcing overtime with an offensive put-back with :00.2 remaining in regulation. In the extra frame, White provided the game-winning points after rebounding a miss and following up with a basket with 15 seconds remaining. His overtime-forcing bucket and game-winning basket marked the first time in SDSU school history that a player hit a shot to force an extra period and hit a game-winning shot in the same game. Adams, from Houston, Texas, led UNLV to a 3-0 mark and the Duel in the Desert tournament title last week. He was named the tournament's most valuable player after leading the Rebels in points per game (15.3), free throw percentage (93.8, 15-for-16 overall), assists (14) and steals (seven). Adams began the tournament with a 13-point, five-assist, five-steal performance in a win over Kennesaw State. He followed with another 13-point outing vs. Nicholls State, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and collecting five rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes of action. Adams concluded the tourney scoring a game-high and season-best tying 20 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from three-point range against Minnesota. He was 8-of-9 from the charity stripe and also had seven assists, five rebounds and no turnovers as UNLV defeated the Gophers to bring home the tournament title.
