MWC CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - DEC. 15

JIMMER FREDETTE, SO., G, BYU (GLENN FALLS, N.Y.)
BYU sophomore Jimmer Fredette averaged 20.0 points per game while shooting 72.7 percent from the field (16-for-22) and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe in helping BYU to wins against Boise State (94- 56) and Portland (91-76) last week. The 6-foot-2 guard from Glenn Falls, N.Y., started the week scoring a career-high 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while tying a career-best with four steals vs. Boise State. Fredette also tallied two assists vs. the Broncos. Against Portland, Fredette scored 17 points (6-for-7 from the field), while also collecting three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

ROMAN MARTINEZ, JR., F, NEW MEXICO (EL PASO, TEXAS)
New Mexico junior Roman Martinez led the Lobos to wins at San Diego (57-54) and versus Mississippi (103- 70). At San Diego, he scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. The 6-foot-6 forward from El Paso, Texas, shot 5-for-8 from the floor, including hitting 2-of-4 shots from beyond the arc. Against Ole Miss, he collected his second career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 12 rebounds (eight offensive). Martinez's eight offensive boards were the most for a Lobo player since Danny Granger grabbed eight during the 2004-05 season. Martinez also established a career-high in steals (5), while dishing out four assists vs. the Rebels. On the week, he averaged 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 57.1 percent from the floor (12-for-21) and 50.0 percent from three-point range (5-for-10).

WEEK 5 RECAP
The MWC posted a 5-3 mark over the weekend to complete its fifth week of non-conference play with an 8-7 record overall. BYU and New Mexico each went 2-0 during the week, stretching their win streaks to 10 and three games, respectively. Air Force, UNLV and Wyoming were all victorious in solo outings on the week as the Falcons won their fourth straight game, while UNLV and Wyoming ran their win streaks to three and two games, respectively. TCU tallied a 1-1 mark in a pair of outings, while Colorado State, San Diego State and Utah each went 0-2.

EIGHT TELEVISION BROADCASTS HIGHLIGHT WEEK 6 ACTION
Eight of the 10 non-conference games involving Mountain West teams during the week of Dec. 15-21 will be televised, with all eight of those being available nationally. MOUNTAIN WEST AMONG CONFERENCE RPI LEADERS
The Mountain West has the sixth-best Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) according to the latest Collegeiate Basketball News and CollegeRPI.com rankings. Since the league's inception in 1999, the MWC has ranked in the top 10 of the RPI in eight of nine years. Below are the top eight conference RPI rankings through games of December 14:

COUGARS OFF TO IMPRESSIVE START
BYU has opened the 2008-09 season with 10 consecutive victories and is tied with Clemson, Oklahoma and Pittsburgh for the second-longest active win streak in the NCAA. The Cougars are one of 14 teams still undefeated this season and one of four with a 10-0 record (Clemson, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh) heading into Week 5 action. NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
Mountain West teams are a combined 60-27 (.690) vs. non-conference opponents this season. Since the league's inception in 1999, the MWC has recorded an overall win percentage of 61 percent or greater against non-conference opponents. The MWC's best non-conference performance came during the 2006- 07 campaign when MWC teams combined to win a league-record 96 games outside of the conference for an MWC-best .722 win percentage (96-37).

HOMECOURT ADVANTAGE
The nation's longest active home win streak resides in the Mountain West as BYU has won 53 consecutive games in the Marriott Center. The Cougars' 53-game run in Provo is a new school and MWC record for consecutive home victories, breaking BYU's former mark of 44 games, which ran from Feb. 19, 2000 to Jan. 16, 2003. BYU has not lost in the Marriott Center since an 81-73 setback to Loyola Marymount on Nov. 18, 2005. Effective with the 2008-09 season, the three-point line has increased from 19 feet, 9 inches to 20 feet, 9 inches. UNLV currently holds the NCAA record for consecutive games with at least one made 3-pointer. Since the official adoption of the 3-point rule at the start of the 1986-87 season, the Runnin' Rebels have connected on at least one trey in all 716 of its games.
