San Diego State Carries Four-Game Winning Streak into Saturday's Game; Aztecs Look for First Win Over Arizona Since 1983 Tip-off is set for 7:02 p.m. PT and the game will be televised by The Mtn. (San Diego Cox Cable channel 320, DirecTV channel 616 and Orange County Cox Cable channel 265). The game can be heard in Southern California on AM 600 KOGO with Ted Leitner providing the play-by-play. Live stats will also be available on GoAztecs.com. On Wednesday, San Diego State won its 12th straight home game during the month of December with an 82-68 victory over Cal State Fullerton. The Aztecs led wire-to-wire, building a 16-point halftime advantage and increasing it to 22 before settling for the 14-point win. Freshman Kawhi Leonard set career highs for points (23), rebounds (18) and assists (5) and led San Diego State in all three categories. Junior forward Billy White added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and junior Brian Carlwell and freshman guard Chase Tapley each added 10 points.
Arizona defeated Louisiana Tech at home on Wednesday, 83-67. This marks the final non-conference road game for the Wildcats, who have already faced Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma and UNLV this season. Arizona has dominated the series, leading 20-5 overall, including a 6-4 record against the Azetcs in San Diego. The Wildcats have won the last seven meetings, including a 69-56 victory in Tuscon last season. The Aztecs are looking for their first victory over Arizona, since Dec. 17, 1983, when Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson topped the charts with "Say, Say, Say" and "Two of a Kind," starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, was number one at the box office. San Diego State won that game 90-80 at the Sports Arena with an Aztec squad that featured some all-time greats, including senior Michael Cage (31 points, 12 rebounds) and junior Leonard Allen (12 points and nine rebounds). Later that season, Cage, SDSU's second all-time leading scorer and all-time leading rebounder, was named a second-team All-American. |
