New Mexico's Roman Martinez Named MWC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Colorado Springs, Colo. - New Mexico senior Roman Martinez has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through December 5. This is the third weekly accolade of Martinez's career.

A 6-6 forward from El Paso, Texas, Martinez led the Lobos to home victories over then-No. 25 California (86-78) and in-state rival New Mexico State (75-58) last week. Against the 25th-ranked Bears, Martinez scored 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. He also collected five rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot in 26 minutes of action. Against New Mexico State, Martinez tallied a game-high 21 points (6-of-12 from the field), while pulling down eight rebounds. He tied single-game career-highs in three-pointers made (5) and steals (5) while also dishing out an assist.

On the week, Martinez averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, while shooting 11-for-19 (57.9 percent) from the field, 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) from beyond the arc and 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
