Colorado State's Stuart Creason and New Mexico's J.R. Giddens Named MWC Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week
Nov. 19, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State senior Stuart Creason and New Mexico senior J.R. Giddens were named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week. This is the first career weekly honor for Creason and the second for Giddens.A 7-foot-0 center from Coppell, Texas, Creason was named Most Valuable Player at the 2007 BP Top of the World Classic after helping the Rams to a 3-0 record and the tournament title. He opened tourney play with a career-high 17 rebounds and a season-high 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting in a 69-56 win over Oregon State. Creason followed that with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting in the Rams' 87-68 semifinal victory against Tennessee State. In the championship game, Creason registered his second double-double of the week with 17 points and 10 rebounds, including hitting a three-foot jumper with 15 seconds remaining to lift the Rams to a 64-63 win over Portland State. On the week, Creason averaged 14.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while collecting four blocks and shooting 69.0 percent from the field (20-for-29).
A 6-foot-5 guard from Oklahoma City, Okla., Giddens led the Lobos to a 4-0 home record on the week, including being named Most Valuable Player of the Basketball Travelers Invitational. He began the week with a double-double in UNM's 92-57 win over Eastern Washington, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Giddens also tallied three assists and three steals vs. the Eagles. He opened tournament play scoring 16 points while pulling in eight rebounds and dishing out two assists in a 88-57 win over Presbyterian. Giddens followed with his second double-double of the week, an 11-point, 12-rebound effort in the Lobos' 81-54 victory over St. Bonaventure. He concluded the tournament with a season-high 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor as New Mexico secured the Basketball Travelers Invitational title with an 86-58 win over Loyola Marymount. On the week, Giddens averaged 15.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 54.8 percent from the field (23-for-42), including a 44.4 percent efficiency from beyond the arc (4-for-9).
