UNM'S ROMAN MARTINEZ CANDIDATE FOR LOWE'S SENIOR CLASS AWARD
New Mexico senior forward Roman Martinez is among 30 candidates for the 2009-10 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, character, community and competition. An acronym for "Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School", the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Martinez, a three-year letterwinner for the Lobos, received all-MWC honorable mention in 2008-09 after averaging 10.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. The El Paso, Texas, native is a three-time Academic All-MWC honoree and was named to the ESPN the Magainze Academic All-District VI team in 2009. An active member of the Albuquerque community, Martinez was accepted to the UNM Anderson School of Management a year ago and carries a 3.44 cumulative grade point average. The list of candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four "Cs" of classroom, character, community and competition. The winner will be announced at the 2010 NCAA Men's Final Four® in Indianapolis in April.

MWC CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO LAS VEGAS
The MWC Championship returns to the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., (March 10-13) for the eighth time in the league's 11-year history. The 2011-13 MWC Tournaments will also take place at the Thomas & Mack Center.

San Diego State Head Coach Steve Fisher is the dean of Mountain West Conference men's basketball coaches. Fisher is in his 11th season at the helm of the Aztec program and is the only MWC coach to hold his current position since the inception of the conference in 1999.
