New Mexico's Drew Gordon Adds to Preseason Honors Senior forward named candidate for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and Naismith Trophy
Nov. 8, 2011 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Preseason accolades continue to roll in for New Mexico men's basketball student-athlete Drew Gordon. One of 50 players selected for the Wooden Preseason Watch List, the senior forward has also been named a candidate for the 2011-12 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award® and the Naismith Trophy. Gordon is the only Mountain West student-athlete on any of the three lists. Gordon, one of three seniors on this year's Lobo squad, played in 26 games last season. The San Jose, Calif., averaged a double-double with 13.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, becoming the first Lobo to average a double-double since 1974. Despite sitting out the first nine games of the season to satisfy NCAA transfer requirements, Gordon amassed numerous honors in his first season as a Lobo. He was named the Mountain West Newcomer of the Year and was a second-team All-Conference selection in addition to receiving second-team All-NABC District 17 accolades. The winners of both the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and Naismith Trophy will be announced during the 2012 NCAA Men's Final Four®, which will be held March 31 and April 2 in New Orleans.
