Colorado State University men's basketball coach Tim Miles today announced the signing of swingman Andre McFarland to a national letter of intent.

McFarland is a 6-foot-6, 220-pound freshman from Las Vegas, Nev.

"Andre is a vital piece of the puzzle for CSU," said Miles. "He has great intensity and toughness. He is versatile offensive player who can beat you inside and outside. He rebounds well, he knows how to get fouled, and is highly competitive. I love what Andre brings to the table as a person, student and basketball."

McFarland formerly played at Durango High in Las Vegas, where he was a two-time all-state selection. He averaged 23 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.1 blocks per game as a senior and was nominated for the McDonald's All-America team. As a junior, McFarland scored 25 points per game and averaged 12 rebounds. He was chosen to participate in the Reebok ABCD Camp following his sophomore and junior seasons, respectively, and the NBA Players Assn. Camp. after his junior year. McFarland was also named the Nevada Freshman Gatorade Player of the Year following his first year of high school competition.

Following his career at Durango, he played one year at Brewster Academy, where he averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. He was ranked among the top 50 fifth-year prep players by hoopscooponline.com.

He also received recruiting interest from Creighton, Minnesota, San Diego State and La Salle.
