Two Join CSU Basketball Program Josh Simmons and Marcus Walker will join the Rams in 2007-08.
May 17, 2007 Two more student-athletes have joined Colorado State University's men's basketball program, first-year coach Tim Miles announced today. Miles said 6-foot-5 guard Josh Simmons from Houston, Texas and 6-foot-1 guard Marcus Walker from Kansas City, Mo., will join the team for next season. Simmons, a freshman-to-be, played at Westfield High in Houston, and earned first-team all-district honors as a senior. He averaged 15 points, six rebounds and three assists per game. Simmons led the team in scoring, assists, and steals and earlier this spring was named the most valuable player in the Houston Basketball Coaches Assn. all-star game. He was listed among the top 25 prep players in the state of Texas last season. "This is coup for CSU basketball," Miles said. "Josh is the total package: A great person, student and player. We are thrilled to have him with us." Simmons had many opportunities to continue his career at high profile programs, Miles said, before signing a national letter of intent to enroll at CSU. "Although he had options with many other programs, Josh knew he could make an immediate impact. A big guard with his playmaking ability will do well in our style of play," Miles said. Walker played last season at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa after having played one year at the University of Nebraska. "Marcus is a great addition to our program," said Miles. "He is a great person, a hard-working student and a terrific player. He will bring some much needed experience to our backcourt. Marcus is a player who has excellent scoring ability and leadership skills, both of which will help CSU compete well in the Mountain West Conference." Walker led Indian Hills to a 33-3 record and berth in the national junior college tournament last season. Indian Hills finished ranked No. 1 nationally in the final regular-season poll. Walker was a first-team all-conference selection. As a prep player, Walker averaged 14 points, six assists, and two steals as a senior and is the Kansas City public school district's all-time scoring leader.
