LARAMIE, Wyo. - When the University of Wyoming honors its next Hall of Fame class, a fellow by the name of Willard "Dutch" Witte will be among them.

It's a gesture that will be decades late. He should have been in that first class 10 years ago. It has been some 65 years since he last coached a basketball team at UW.

Did the years pass him by? Or was he forgotten in the subsequent years of basketball success?

There has been none greater, no coach at UW more effective, and he was a real gentleman of the game.

Sports Editor Robert Gagliardi opened up a priceless scrapbook, maybe long forgotten, in a piece this past Sunday that told how the Cowboys were crowned national champions in 1934.
