MWC Men's Basketball Weekend Update - Feb. 14

Utah took sole possession of first-place in the conference standings with its win over San Diego State (67-55) Wednesday night in Salt Lake City. With the loss, the Aztecs fell into a tie for second with New Mexico, who defeated Air Force (76-66) on Wednesday. UNLV and BYU also won their mid-week outings, defeating TCU (71-57) and Colorado State (94-60), respectively. Four more games are scheduled for Saturday, February 14, with three being aired nationally on The Mtn. as part of a tripleheader.

- UNLV shot 50 percent from the floor (24-for-48) and forced TCU to commit a season-high 26 turnovers in the game.
- Wink Adams scored 21 points to lead the Rebels, while Joe Darger added 14 points, six rebounds and four steals.
- Ronnie Moss led TCU with 15 points and six rebounds.
- After trailing 17-7, UNLV went on a 23-2 run to go up 30-19.
- TCU shot 52.4 percent (11-for-21) in the first half and 25.8 percent (8-for-25) in the second stanza.

- The Lobos shot 70.6 percent (12-17) from the field in the second half at Air Force after shooting 43.5 percent (10-23) in the first half.
- New Mexico's seven conference wins have been by an average of
17.4 points while their three losses - all on the road - have been by a combined 8 points, or 2.7 points per game.
- UNM has made a three-pointer in 606 straight games. The last time the Lobos failed to connect from long range was Jan. 3, 1991 against Colorado State.
- New Mexico's Roman Martinez tied his season-high with 20 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
- Phillip McDonald scored 12 points vs. the Falcons, his first double-digit game since tying his career-high of 17 at San Diego State on Jan. 21.
- Air Force's 52.4 percent shooting from the field is the third-best percentage this season.
- Air Force's 66 points are the most against an MWC opponent this season.
- Andrew Henke's 19 points are the most against an MWC opponent this season.

- BYU's James Anderson posted a career-high 16 points, a career-high tying seven rebounds, two steals and one block vs. Colorado State.
- Jonathan Tavernari posted his fourth double-double of the season and the sixth of his career with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
- The Cougars posted a 72.4 shooting percentage in the opening half, their best first-half percentage of the season. The previous season-high was achieved against Portland, shooting 69.6 percent.
- Charles Abouo had a career-high 11 points against the Rams, as well as tying his career high for rebounds with six.
- BYU posted 17 assists in the first half and 28 assists for the game--both season highs.
- The Rams were led by Marcus Walker, who scored a team-high 19 points on 8-20 shooting, including three three-point field goals.

- With its win, Utah is now alone in first place in the Mountain West Conference for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
- Utah's Shaun Green recorded his first double-double of the season, tying his season-high with 21 points and setting a new season-high with 10 rebounds. It was his fourth career double-double and fifth 20-point game.
- Utah forced a season-high 18 turnovers in the contest.
- Utah got outrebounded for the first time in 10 MWC games this year. Utah had won the rebound game in 10 of its last 11 games and in the other, tied its opponent.
- Kyle Spain led the Aztecs with 18 points.
- Richie Williams added to his SDSU and MWC career steals figure with three more steals at Utah.
