Feb. 11, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State sophomore guard Derrick Marks has been named Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through February 10. This is the second career MW weekly accolade for Marks. Marks scored 16 second-half points, tying for game-high honors, in nearly leading Boise State to a road upset of No. 25 San Diego State. He followed that performance with 17 points against Wyoming as the Broncos earned their first regular-season sweep of a Mountain West squad. The Chicago, Ill., native added a game-high seven assists to go with one rebound and one steal in Wednesday's meeting with the Aztecs. Held scoreless in the first half, Marks either scored or assisted on 10 of Boise State's 13 second-half baskets as the Broncos rallied from a 17-point deficit to take their first lead of the game (56-54) at the 5:43 mark. After San Diego State knotted the score at 58-58 with 3:55 left to play, Marks fed teammate Mikey Thompson for a 3-point basket that put the Broncos on top for the next three minutes before the Aztecs' Chase Tapley hit a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining to secure the 63-62 victory. On Saturday, Marks went 7-of-11 (.636) from the field in a 68-61 victory over the Cowboys (.636). He also contributed five rebounds, one assist and one steal as the Broncos pushed their Mountain West win total to four games on the season, surpassing last year's mark of three MW victories. For the week, Marks averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while going 13-of-26 (.500) from the field, including 3-of-4 (.750) from the 3-point line, and 4-of-6 (.667) from the free throw stripe.
