Feb. 4, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State senior forward Pierce Hornung has been named Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through February 3. This is Hornung's second career MW weekly accolade. Hornung recorded back-to-back double-doubles while helping the Rams extend their program-record home win streak to 26 games with victories over Boise State and Border War rival Wyoming last week. In Wednesday's 77-57 win against the Broncos, the Arvada, Colo., native was 8-of-11 (.727) from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from 3-point range, while registering game-highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds. He collected five offensive rebounds in the contest and added three assists and one steal. Hornung followed that performance with a 12-point, 11-rebound effort in the Rams' 65-46 victory over Wyoming on Saturday. He counted six offensive boards among his rebound tally while also notching one assist and matching a career high with two blocks in the game. For the week, Hornung averaged 17.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the field, including 75 percent (3-of-4) from beyond the arc, while registering 11 offensive rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal.
