COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State sophomore forward JJ O'Brien has been named Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through January 27. This is O'Brien's first career MW weekly accolade. O'Brien, a 6-7 forward, made back-to-back starts at point guard while helping then-No. 25 San Diego State post the only 2-0 record in Mountain West action last week as the Aztecs picked up a road win at Nevada and defeated then-No. 15/17 New Mexico (previously unbeaten in MW play) at home. At Nevada, O'Brien netted a season-high 12 points on 4-of-5 field goals and 4-of-7 free-throws, adding three rebounds and two assists as SDSU stopped a two-game skid with the 78-57 victory.
