Mountain West Announces Men's Basketball Player of the Week San Diego State's Jamaal Franklin garners first career weekly honor
Jan. 16, 2012 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State sophomore guard Jamaal Franklin has been named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through January 15. This is the first career weekly accolade for Franklin. Franklin recorded back-to-back double-doubles in leading the 22nd-ranked Aztecs to wins at home against Chicago State and No. 12 UNLV last week. The sophomore guard scored 16 points and tied a career-high with 10 rebounds in Tuesday's 73-65 triumph over Chicago State, adding two steals and one assist. En route to scoring a team-high 24 points in Saturday's Conference opener against the Runnin' Rebels, Franklin converted all eight of his free throw attempts and hit the game-winning basket with three-tenths of a second remaining for the 69-67 victory. The Hawthorne, Calif., native matched his personal-best in rebounds for the third time in four games, grabbing 10 boards to go with two assists, one blocked shot and one steal. For the week, Franklin averaged 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while going 14-of-35 (.400) from the field and 11-of-16 (.688) at the free throw line.
