BYU Falls to In-State Rival Utah State, 91-80

LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Nate Harris scored a career-high 27 points as Utah State University beat in-state rival Brigham Young University 91-80 Thursday night.

Harris also had five assists for USU (6-3). Cass Matheus 18 for the Aggies and Jaycee Carroll added 13.

Brigham Young (6-3) was led by Brock Reichner, who scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Rashaun Broadus added 17 for the Cougars.

USU led by as many as 24 points midway through the second half before BYU ripped off a string of four straight 3-pointers to bring the Cougars to 69-62. The teams traded baskets before Carroll and Harris got consecutive baskets to gain an 80-69 advantage with 3:20 in the game.

As BYU defenders scrambled during full-court pressure in the game's final moments, Harris had two slam dunks and Matheus added another to keep the Cougars at a distance. Harris shot 11-of-15 and was 5-of-8 from the free-throw line.

USU, which came into the game ranked seventh nationally in shooting at 52 percent, shot 60 percent against BYU.

In the first half, USU burst out to a 13-2 lead on balanced scoring, ending the half leading 47-32. BYU's up-tempo offense gave up 10 turnovers in the first half while leading scorer Trent Plaisted (14.8 points per game) was held scoreless and picked up three fouls. Plaisted ended the game with five points.
