Cardinals Swoop Past BYU In OT, 86-77 Young scores 19 points to lead Cougars.

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Lamar Sanders scored 19 points, including four in overtime, as Lamar defeated BYU 86-77 Wednesday night to end a three-game losing streak. Sanders forced the game into overtime when he hit a free throw with 1:04 left to tie the game at 72-72. He then hit a layup and two free throws as Lamar (4-6) outscored BYU 14-5 in overtime. James Davis scored 20 points to lead five Cardinals in double figures. He also had 16 rebounds for his third double-double of the season before fouling out. Todd Currye scored 12 points. Darren Hopkins had 11 and Matthew Barrow had 10, half of those in overtime. Keena Young led BYU (5-4) with 19 points. Jimmy Balderson came off the bench to score 15 and Mike Rose scored 14. Lamar led 44-30 at the half. BYU shot 55 percent from the field in the second half to 40 percent for Lamar. Lamar hit 3-of-5 field goals in overtime while BYU hit 1-of-10.
