Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Judson Stubbs had a career-high 22 points to go with 11 rebounds while Brent Hackett added a career-best 17 points to lead TCU to a 71-63 victory over Texas-Arlington Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Horned Frogs, in opening a five-game homestand, were at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum for the first time since a Nov. 22 win over Jackson State. TCU's previous five contests were on the road.

Stubbs posted his second double-double of the season. He was one rebound shy of equaling a career-high in boards (12, at Southern Miss, March 5, 2005).

TCU led 33-22 at the intermission and extended its advantage to 39-27 on a Stubbs 3-pointer 3:53 into the second half.

UTA answered with a 20-7 run over a 6:07 stretch to take its only lead of the night at 47-46 on a Brandon Long 3-pointer with 10:00 to play.

TCU then scored the next seven points to begin a 14-5 run, capped by a Hackett jumper, to lead 60-52 with 5:34 left.

UTA (4-5) pulled within 64-60 on a putback by Jermaine Griffin with 1:17 remaining.

A Hackett 3-pointer with 46 seconds to play built TCU's margin to 67-60. The Mavericks would get no closer than six points the remainder of the contest.

Nile Murry added 16 points for TCU to reach double figures in scoring in all eight contests this season.

TCU (2-6) scored the game's opening six points and led 13-2 after an Allen Taylor bucket 5:10 into the contest.

The Mavericks were able to close within six points, 24-18, on a Jarrett Howell layup with 3:30 left in the first half, before the Frogs answered with a 9-4 spurt to take a 33-22 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

The Frogs forced 19 turnovers in defeating the Mavericks for the ninth straight time.

Howell topped the Mavericks with 16 points.

TCU will now break for final exams before returning to action Sunday, Dec. 18, versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m.
