Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Charlie Burgess scored 20 points, with one of his six 3-pointers starting Texas Tech's tiebreaking run in the second half, and the Red Raiders beat TCU 70-60 Wednesday night for coach Bob Knight's 875th career victory.

Knight is only four victories shy of matching Dean Smith's NCAA Division I record. The next victory for the Red Raiders (6-2) will tie Knight for No. 2 on the career list with Adolph Rupp.

The latest victory certainly won't be one of Knight's favorites after watching TCU (4-2) overcome a 14-point deficit with a 20-6 run to start the second half.

TCU got even at 44-all with 10:40 left on a 3-pointer by Brent Hackett, who had started the second-half surge with another 3-pointer. But the Horned Frogs weren't able to go ahead.

Burgess then hit a 3-pointer and Martin Zeno scored the next five points to stretch Texas Tech's lead to 52-44.

Burgess had 19 points and eight rebounds. Jarrius Jackson finished with 16 despite struggling most of the night.

When the Frogs got within 60-56 with 2:15 left, Zeno penetrated before passing the ball out to Jackson for a 3-pointer. Jackson then scored again on Tech's next possession.

Neiman Owens led TCU with 11 points and Kevin Langford had 10.

Jackson was only 1-of-5 shooting in the first half, making only a 3-pointer. He missed his only two free throws, after missing just three of his 46 attempts before that.

Despite Jackson's struggles, the Red Raiders led 38-24 at the break.

Zeno and Burgess combined for 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting in the first half. Burgess made a short jumper about five minutes into the game that put the Red Raiders up 7-6, and they never trailed again.
