Nov. 23, 2007

Final Stats

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -Andrew Henke scored 17 points as Air Force defeated Mississippi Valley State 58-40 on Friday night in the opening game of the Cougar Hispanic College Fund Challenge.

The Falcons (5-0) built commanding leads in each half by holding Mississippi Valley State to 24 percent shooting in the game. Tim Anderson added 14 points, as the Falcons shot 56 percent from the field.

Carl Lucas scored 18 points and was the only player in double figures for the Delta Devils (0-5).

Air Force took a 21-6 lead in the first half behind 11 points by Henke. The Falcons held Mississippi Valley State to one field goal in the opening 12 minutes.

The Delta Devils eventually got on track, as Lucas hit three 3-pointers during a 13-5 run to cut the lead to 26-19. The Falcons closed the half by scoring the next nine points to extend their lead to 35-19.

Air Force opened the second half with a 19-6 run to take a 54-25 lead and dashed Mississippi Valley State's hopes for a comeback.

The Falcons are under the direction of first-year coach Jeff Reynolds. They have only one returning starter from last year's NIT semifinalist team.

Both teams play again Saturday as Air Force faces Montana and Mississippi Valley State takes on No. 9 Washington State, the host team.
