SAN DIEGO (AP) - Kyle Spain tied a career high with 22 points as San Diego State beat Fresno State, 80-56, in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon. With the victory the Aztecs improved to 2-1 (0-0 MWC) while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-2 (0-0 WAC).

Joining Spain in double figures for San Diego State was Ryan Amoroso, who had 11. Spain, who was six-for-12 from the field and cashed in eight of eight free throws, also led the team in rebounds with 11.

Sylvester Seay had 13 points for Fresno State and Dwight ONeil 12. Freshman Paul George, who had averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in his first two games for the Bulldogs, was held two points scoring his lone basket in the final minute.

Spain scored 12 points in the first half and Amoroso seven as San Diego State, which never trailed, jumped out to a 40-23 lead at the half. Kelvin Davis and Mehdi Cheriet, both of whom scored nine points, helped the Aztecs build its lead to 23 points at 57-34 with 11:47 left in the game.

And San Diego State coasted home to the 24-point win, which was the largest margin of victory over Fresno State since an 80-58 victory on Feb. 19, 1977.
